 | | | | | | | In late March, painted turtles might be seen on a sunny day swimming just beneath the ice. Being cold-blooded reptiles, they rely on the sun to provide warmth to raise their body temperatures.
Also, watch for mourning cloak butterflies emerging from their winter sleep as they search the early spring woodlands for nectar. They are often seen visiting maple trees for a taste of "spring sugar".
